Obituary of Jennie Tammaro

Jennie Gloria (Proto) Tammaro, 96, of East Haven, Connecticut passed away peacefully on April 24, 2019 with her family by her side.

She was born to the late Pasquale and Carmela (DiLieto) Proto, April 11, 1923. Jennie graduated from East Haven High School in 1941 and later worked as a seamstress, typist and bookkeeper. She married the late Joseph A. Tammaro, Sr., on October 28, 1946, living most of her life in East Haven where the two raised their family.

Jennie is survived by her three children, son Joseph A. (Betsy) Tammaro, Jr. of Leominster, Massachusetts, and daughters Barbara J. Tower (Ralph Columbare) and Patricia A. McKechnie of East Haven. She is also survived by her sister Anne Marie DeFrank of West Haven, as well as ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph A. Tammaro; sisters Mary Barletta, Rose DePascale and Trixie Fornal; brothers Matthew, Thomas, Albert and Anthony Proto and her granddaughter, Emily Hemingway.

She loved to spend time with her family, enjoying many memorable holidays and celebrations with relatives and close friends. Always staying active, Jennie loved to cook and bake, spent the Winter months in Hollywood, Florida, and enjoyed trips to Italy, Las Vegas and the Caribbean. She was a regular at both the East Haven and East Shore Senior Centers.

Family will receive friends from 9 – 10:40 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2019 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven at which time her funeral procession will leave for a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven with Committal to follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, 280 Derby Ave., West Haven.
