Jacqueline Ann “Jackie” (Callahan) Lembo, 87 of East Haven passed away April 13th, 2016 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Jerry Lembo (Dec. 2015). Jacqueline was born November 7, 1928 to the late Charles Lewis Callahan and Ann (Killilea) Callahan. She was born in Momauguin where she loved spending time at East Haven Town Beach. Jackie is survived by five loving and caring children; Charles Lembo (Debbie) of Southington, CT, Maria Brett (Eric) of Westford, MA, Cathy DePonte (Peter) of Southington, CT, Nancy Lembo of Mount Pleasant, SC, Peggy Splaine (John) of West Boothbay Harbor, ME. She was a proud grandmother of: Christopher & Meghan Lembo, Lauren, Matthew & Michael Brett, Steven, Amanda, & Rachel DePonte, Cleyton Splaine, Molly & Murphy Lembo. She is also survived by her brother, Rev. Francis Callahan of Milford, CT, sister, Nancy Richter of Fairfield, CT, brother-in-law, Richard Brock of Rockville, CA, sister-in-law, Carmel Lembo of Wallingford, CT and many nieces and nephews. Jacqueline is predeceased by four siblings; brothers, Rev. Robert Callahan, Rev. Charles Callahan, sisters, Ruth O’Connor and Madeline Brock and brother-in-laws, Raymond O’Connor & Eugene Richter. Jackie loved music, was an avid pianist and was the organist at St. Clare Church for many years. An alumnus from East Haven High School and Albertus Magnus College, Jackie was an educator at East Haven High School for over 30 years where she taught science and math. She also was the cheerleading advisor for East Haven High School and for EH Midget Football for many years. She was an excellent swimmer, and loved to play and watch basketball, baseball, and golf. An active member of her community, Jackie was a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Church in East Haven, where she was a Eucharistic Minister, a trustee of the church, and a religious education teacher for many years. Jackie and her late husband spent many years supporting the East Haven Food Pantry and American Legion Post 89. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and spending time with her family, especially cheering on her grandchildren at all their sporting events. Family will receive friends from 12 PM (noon) to 3 PM on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Funeral procession will leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home on Monday, April 18 at 12:15 PM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 PM in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Taylor Ave., East Haven with Committal to follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Haven Food Pantry, 39 Park Place, East Haven CT 06512 in memory of Jacqueline Lembo.
