Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael A. Giaimo, 76, of East Haven passed away on June 20, 2024. He was born August 28, 1947, in New Haven to the late Mario and Adeline “Lil” (D’Agostino) Giaimo. Michael is survived by his wife, Candace “Candy” (Schmidt) Giaimo; his children, Lauren Giaimo Cacace (Frank) of North Haven and David Giaimo (Jaime) of East Haven, and their mother, Anna Meiklejohn; as well as Candace’s children, Michael DeMayo (Allison) of Berlin and Jeremy DeMayo (Shelby Duda) of Guilford. Michael is also survived by his sister, Patricia “Patty” Giaimo Gambardella of Cheshire, most recently of Orange (Joe Gaetano), and five grandchildren: David Giaimo Jr., Mason Giaimo, Kenny Woodward, Tori DeMayo, and Max DeMayo. Michael leaves two nephews, both of Cheshire, Brian Gambardella (Sarah) and Michael Gambardella (Cailyn Aichelman), and two great nephews, Jeremy and Corey Gambardella. He also leaves behind many cousins and longtime friends that were special to him.
Michael was a lifelong resident of East Haven, except for the four years he proudly served his country in the US Navy. After leaving the Navy, he joined the facilities department at Yale University where he worked for forty years, most notably as the lead HVAC technician at the Beinecke Rare Book Library for almost thirty of those years. Michael was well known as being able to fix anything. He was an avid Yankee fan, an outstanding bowler, thanks to spending countless hours as a teenager and later in his adult years at Circle Lanes in East Haven, a talented guitarist, and a motorcycle enthusiast, but mostly he was a kind, generous, and loving father, husband, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives he touched in his own special way.
