Obituary of Estela Marquez-Smith

Estela Marquez-Smith of New Haven passed away peacefully on December 29, 2023. She was born May 13, 1961, in Manila, Philippines to Josefina and Eduardo Marquez. She is survived by her three daughters, Emerald, Dominique, and Maristela, and by her grandsons, Domino and Derek. Estela was a beloved mother whose life was all about her daughters. Her happiness was seeing all her girls living their lives. She made sacrifices to give them all a good life. She moved to the US in 2001, met her late husband Henry Arthur ‘Bud’ Smith III, and eventually was able to move her daughters to the US to be with her. She was a good mother and wife. She was a very caring and giving person, and she found her calling working as a caregiver to the elderly. She was passionate about the work she did. It was never just a job to her, because she truly valued the people in her care. In her free time, she loved cooking Filipino food. She also enjoyed watching cooking and mukbang videos and of course her favorite K-dramas. She loved to travel and collect magnets from the places she visited and also thrift shopping with her daughters. Estela will always be remembered as a beautiful woman with a positive and strong attitude in life. Spending time with her was always filled with smiles and laughter, and she will be greatly missed. A private Celebration of Life in memory of Estela, will be held at Anthony’s Ocean View, 450 Lighthouse Road, New Haven CT on Friday, January 5, 2024. Her final resting place will be at the All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
