Obituary of Mary Ellen McCarthy

Mary Ellen McCarthy, 89, of Branford passed away June 17, 2022. She was born December 2, 1932 in New Haven to Walter and Ellen (Williams) MacPherson. She is preceded in death by her parents, four siblings and her beloved husband of 52 years husband, Francis E. McCarthy Jr. After her retirement of 40 years with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Mary enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels and for Trinity Church in Branford. They spent summers in New Hampshire in the log cabin they built. She also loved to travel and attending the reunions and celebrations held by surviving members of Yankee Division “YD,” her husband's unit in WWII. She leaves behind her friend and sister-in-law, Martha McCarthy of Madison, three nieces, Donna Cataldo of Old Saybrook, Patricia Houle of Prospect, Cathy McCarthy of New Mexico and one nephew, Gary McCarthy of Colorado Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Memorial Service on Tuesday June 28, 2022 at 11 A.M. in Trinity Episcopal Church, 1109 Main Street, Branford CT. Burial will be at a later date in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield, CT. All services are under the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven.
