Obituary of Gregory Ayala

Gregory “Ace” Ayala 94 of Hamden passed away peacefully on January 17, 2022. He was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on April 14,1927 to Gregorio and Julia (Rivera) Ayala. Gregory is survived by his loving daughter, Anne Traverso Weir (John) of Hamden, two grandchildren, Jamie Traverso, Alyssa Piroli (Christopher) and two great grandchildren, Gabriella Piroli and Christopher “CJ” Piroli. He is also survived by his niece, Lianne Gerety (Michael), great nephew, Aiden and a sister-in-law, Gladys Soto. Gregory is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carmen (Gonzalez) Ayala, son, Gregory Ayala (2020), nephew, Manny Morales, sister-in-law, Anne Morales and brothers-in-law, Manual Morales and John Soto. Ace, as everyone called him, moved to Hamden with his family in 1977 after a career in New York City's Garment Center. He then worked at Connecticut Light and Power as a machinist before retiring. A family man at heart with a wonderful sense of humor, he loved nothing more than spending weekends with his family. He never stopped loving the NY Mets, horse racing, playing cards and dominos, and could tell you the name of every WWE wrestler. Don't ever tell him the sport was fake! Mask wearing family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM (NOON), on Friday, January 21, 2022 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden with Committal to follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park. All services are under the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven.
