My cousin Ken was a quiet giant in my eyes. As the kicker and extra point specialist on the Hobart college football team he was well regarded on campus. In 1961or 62 my dad ( uncle Harold ) took me to a home game in late fall. I was 10 or 11 years old This was my first stadium type event and my cousin was IN THE GAME ! I was impressed . But my positive impression shifted years later to a different aspect of Kens’ endeavor . After getting a hot dog from a game vendor that day for me I learned a valuable life lesson from my father. He said “ Ken is the smartest guy on the team”. I think I said how do you know ? His response was ; as the kicker , he gets to be on the team, rarely gets hurt, and he’s getting a scholarship . My first lesson in the risk-rewards relationship . That day my father was beaming. His family was a big deal and the nephew he loved ( my dad loved everyone in our clan to be sure) was becoming a man any family would be proud of. For a short period of time Ken and Marcia lived in our town Brighton NY when he started his banking career , when they moved it made me sad because they were totally cool and it was a loss. For all that were close to Ken Nye I’m sure his passing is a loss that is real to you and we wish him peace. Paul Treadwell Rochester NY
