Obituary of John Gamon Jr.
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Gamon Jr. 71 of New Haven passed away June 24, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born May 10, 1950 in New Haven to the late John Sr. and Julia (Madia) Gamon. John is survived by his son, Joshua Gamon of Florida and a sister, Nancy Gamon.
He grew up the son of a celebrated war hero and had spent his entire life in New Haven, where Edwards Street met State, and his summers on the shore of Cedar Lake. I didn’t know him as well as I wanted. Like most, he had his share of misfortune and wrong turns, some comical, others more devastating. But those who did know my father should best remember him for his kindness, his goofy sense of humor, and infectious laugh. He loved the music of Neil Young, enjoyed fly fishing at Farmington River, and the thrill of going for the trifecta gambling on the ponies at OTB. Most of all, he loved his only child, Joshua Gamon, and never fell out of love with his ex-wife, Susan Gamon. At 71, he was gone too soon.
