Obituary of Robert Henry
Robert “Bob” Leo Henry, 89, of Old Saybrook, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2019. He was born on January 19, 1930 in Bath, Maine to the late Helen (Morrisson) and Frank Henry. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Frank. His is survived by his sister Judy Roberts of South Carolina, his wife Lucille, seven children, Sheryl (David) Davies, Waterford; Blair (Blythe) Henry, New London; Dean Henry, Quaker Hill; Robin (Michael) Amburn, Waterford; Jennifer (Michael) Henri, Quaker Hill; Priscilla Ault, New London; and Christopher (Llora) Henry, Westbrook; four step-children whom he loved like his own, Robin (Peter) McShane, Madison; Ronald (Jamie O’Connell) Jendzejec, Chappaqua, NY; Sandra (James) Long, Westbrook and Janis (John) Tangney, East Lyme; 35 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
He was raised in Astoria, New York. At eighteen, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served honorably during the Korean War in the engineer corps. Upon returning to civilian life, Bob worked as a draftsman for Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut and then in the tire business for many years as he supported his ever-growing family.
A resident of Old Saybrook for 46 years, Bob enjoyed bowling and golfing, and in his retirement spending winters in Florida with Lucille, his beloved wife of 34 years. He loved reading suspense novels, watching Western movies, completing daily crossword puzzles, cheering for the Mets and the Jets, and tearing up the dance floor with Lucille, his favorite dance partner.
Bob’s family honored his life with a private celebration.
