Obituary of Sylvia Cortes
Sylvia (Quinones) Cortes 79 of New Haven passed away peacefully at home on February 6, 2019. She was born August 5, 1939 in Puerto Rico to Pedro and Matilde (Velez) Quinones. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Evelyn Mont (Roberto) of New Haven and Diamilette McMiller (Ovid) of Louisiana along with three grandchildren, Jenelle Chavis (Thomas), Robert Mont and Anya Santos (Jonathan). Sylvia is also survived by her great grandchildren, Tiannie Chavis, Thomas Chavis Jr., Angelica Santos and Jonathan Santos Jr. along with five siblings, Aurialis Centeno, Elsie Vasquez, Reynalda Quinones, Edwin Quinones and Alcides Quinones. Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ramon Cortes (1989) and a brother, Raphael Quinones.
Mom was a sewing machine operator. Her hobbies were, knitting, crocheting, and cooking. She enjoyed tag sales in the summer, sightseeing and watching birds, but what she most loved was spending time with her family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 115 Blatchley Ave, New Haven CT 06513 with Committal to follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Funeral services are under the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven.
