Obituary of Carol Leary

Carol (Simoni) Leary 90 of East Haven passed away April 4, 2018 at St. Raphael Campus of Yale New Haven. She was born December 17, 1927 in East Haven to John and Loretta (Myers) Simoni. Carol is survived by her loving daughters, Catherine Donahue (Patrick) of North Branford, and Ellen Carofano of New Haven along with seven grandchildren, Dawn Marie Longley, Mary Havens (Tim), Jessica Donahue (Kyle), Rebecca Donahue (Rob), Sarah Donahue, Krystina Carofano (fiancé Wade Henderson), Colleen Carofano and three great grandchildren, Dylan Longley, Timothy Havens and Blake Gilkes. Carol is also survived by sister, Betsy Rotman (Kent) of Madison and a brother, Louis Simoni of Fl. She is preceded in death by her parents, sons, Thomas Leary Jr. and David Leary, brothers, Edward Simoni and John Simoni and two sisters, Florence Snarski and Rita Kapavitch.

A graduate of East Haven High School in 1945 and was hired by SNET, Commercial Headquarters where she worked for 8 years, then left to raise her family She was also employed by CT Humane Society, the Hill Health Center on a temporary basis and Sagal, Jacobs & Co., a CPA firm for five years. At that time she bridged her service and remained back with SNET, until her retirement in December 1989. After a short vacation and boredom, she decided her second vocation in life would be in the child care arena. The next twelve years she worked for the East Haven Little Jackets program and the Whitney Village Nursery School on River St. in East Haven. She finally retired from the Little Jackets in October 2012, at the age of 85. She was a lifelong member of The Telephone Pioneers and CT Union of Telephone workers.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home) 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Her funeral procession will leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 11 at 9:40 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Taylor Ave., East Haven with Committal to follow at All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to any animal rescue and Carol’s favorite color was blue, for those attending the services; please wear something blue in memory and honor of Carol Leary.
