On Saturday morning August 14, 2010 Robert P. Carey Sr. passed away
peacefully at the Hospital of St. Raphael's after a courageous battle with lung
cancer. Bob touched many lives in his 74 years, serving with the National Guard for 9 years; he was an auxiliary policeman until becoming a firefighter for the town of East Haven the job he loved. He had so many interests and hobbies,
photography, fishing hunting, carpentry, gardening and traveled extensively
with his wife. Although he moved away after retirement he returned to make
his home here in East Haven the town he loved. His family was his life, with his wife of 55 years Marguerite Soli Carey they have a daughter, Elisa and her husband Joseph Barra and son Robert Jr. and his wife Josephine. He was blessed with 4 grand daughters, Elisa-Marie Hughes (Paul Corriveau) who gave him his first great grandson, Jonathon. Marissa (Alden)Page who gave him 3 more great grandchildren, Bryanna, Alden Jr. and Ava Page and his youngest granddaughters, Jennifer Barra and her fiancé' Christopher Schatz and Brittani (Ryan) Moore. Ryan and Christopher are currently serving in Afghanistan. Anyone who knew him would know that listing the family would not be complete without mentioning Gerald Hughes, Lisa’s first husband who was close to Bob until the end even mowing the lawn with their grandson Jonathon the day before he passed.
Born march 17,1936, son of the late Edward J. and Mary (Ferdinandus) Carey Sr. Bob came from a family with 13 children, he leaves his brother's Thomas and Richard Carey, his sister's Margaret Kinsella and Mary Barbuto, he was predeceased by his brother's Edward, Francis, William and John Carey and his sister's Dorothy Regan, Elizabeth Dilauro, Helen Paquette, Ann Dietz. Bob gave of himself without thought and never wanted any recognition for it; his happiness came from helping in any way that he could. He leaves a legacy of love and compassion in his loving family, .He spent his last days with his wife caring for his family.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at St. Raphael
Hospital and the Fr. McGivney Cancer Center for their caring and
compassion through this difficult time. Although there are too many
to mention we need to thank Dr. Mario Kitigback and all the staff on
SICU, Dr. Frank Cardinale, Dr. Martin Katz, and Dr. Marino personally
for your kindness and your compassion, Bob thought the world of all
of you and was able to trust in your care
