Wesley “Wes” Shaffner, 81, of Guilford passed away March 3, 2017 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born April 5, 1935 in Bridgeport to the late Joseph and Dorothy (Jennings) Shaffner. Wes is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Joan (Cunningham) Shaffner, and three daughters: Jennifer Shaffner of New Haven, Lindsey Shaffner of NYC and Erin Shaffner (fiancé, Michael Marino) of Branford. Wes is also survived by his sister, Sally Reed of Shelton and two nephews, Curt and Scott Reed. Wes graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a degree in Math. He retired after 31 years as a Senior Engineer at SNET. He later also retired from Quest Diagnostics as a courier after about 15 years. Wes was an avid softball player and coach for his children; he enjoyed singing in the choir at his local church; was a loyal follower of the Mets, Giants, and UConn basketball; and spent his summers camping at Strawberry Park with his friends and family. Wes also loved spending his time spoiling his three granddogs (Ruby, Lola, and Sawyer). Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Funeral procession will leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 8 at 10:15 AM for a Funeral Service at 10:30 AM in Christ and the Epiphany Church, 39 Park Place, East Haven with burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery.
