Obituary of John A. Finelli

John A. Finelli Jr. 88 of New Haven went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2017 at the VA Hospital in West Haven. He is predeceased by his wife Janet Finelli. John was born August 11, 1928 in New Haven to John and Mary (Capella) Finelli. John is survived by son, John Finelli (Roseann) of North Haven, two devoted daughters, Roseann Miller (William) of Branford, Linda Rock (Charles) of East Haven and son, Robert Finelli of West Haven. John is also survived by eight grandchildren, Michael Finelli, John Finelli (Gweneth), David Finelli (Johanna), special grandson Jason Rock, Jennifer Stone (Brian), Carrie McCullough (John), Robert Finelli Jr., Crystal Finelli, along with four great grandchildren, Jacob Finelli, Aria Finelli, Emmett Finelli and Jack McCullough. He is also survived by sisters, Carmel Finelli, Connie Camera and Gloria Calandrelli. He is predeceased by his parents, wife and siblings, Molly Pascale, Rose Damiata, Joseph Finelli and Antoinette Travaglino.
John worked at State Wide Motors for over 45 years. He was an auto mechanic who excelled in Datsun/Nissan. John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He liked to fish and travel. His hobbies were photography and computers. He also loved to walk and could be seen walking to the stores, restaurants and the bank where he lived. John was an extremely independent man who was devoted to his wife and family.
Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday January 7, 2017 at 10 AM in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 115 Blatchley Ave., New Haven with Committal to follow at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven with Military Honors.. Funeral services are in the care of Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home) East Haven. Donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka KS 66675-8516 in memory of John A. Finelli Jr.
