Edward F. Clifford 95 of New Haven died December 29, 2016 at Whitney Manor. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary (Sheehan) Clifford. Born on September 19, 1921 to Daniel and Marguerite (Kelley) Clifford in New Haven CT. He is also survived by his daughters, Patricia (Mark) Jooss of Madison and Barbara Jooss of North Haven. He leaves his grandchildren, Ellen (Christopher) Bergin, Brian (Laura) Jooss and Lauren Jooss. Ed also leaves his beloved great-grandchildren, Breanna Jooss, Aidan Bergin, Madeline Bergin and Quinn Bergin, Riley Jooss, Brian Jooss Jr. and Brendan Jooss. He also leaves many loving nieces and nephews, and his very faithful friend Bob Coyne. He is predeceased by brothers John, Frank and Daniel Clifford and his sister, Ethel Clendenen. Ed served in WWII with the 15th Air Force in Italy and Africa. He was the former Assessor of New Haven, as well as title searcher for the city. He taught for many years at UCONN for the CT Assessors School. He was very active in St. Francis Church as a trustee and usher. He directed many CYO shows for St. Francis and other city parishes. Ed was an Alderman of Bella Vista Ward for three years and was one of the original organizers of the Eddie Sheehan Little league in New Haven. He was also secretary of New Haven Lodge of Elks #25; past president of CT Assessors Assoc., and president of New Haven City Employee’s Association. Ed was also a proud member of the Knights of St. Patrick and Irish American Club. Ed’s family would like to thank the staff at Whitney Manor for their wonderful care and concern during his illness. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Funeral procession will leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 3 at 9:40 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church, 397 Ferry Street, New Haven with Committal to follow at All Saints Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Francis – St. Rose of Lima School Development Fund, 423 Ferry Street, New Haven CT 06513 or CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford CT 06405 in memory of Edward F. Clifford.
