Obituary of Thomas E. Holmes

Dr. Thomas E. Holmes, Minister of Whitney Avenue Church of Christ, 66, of North Haven passed away at home on June 26, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife, Denise (Wyzatecki) Holmes and his three daughters, Leslie Harrington (Dwayne, spouse), Melissa Holmes Burrow (Brian, spouse), Vanessa Holmes all of Texas, five grandchildren, Brock Harrington, Elin Harrington, Lily Holmes, Evelyn Burrow and Texas Burrow. Thomas is also survived by four siblings, Dr. David Holmes (Karen, spouse) of NJ, Karleen Vilas (Peter, spouse) of NJ, Audrey Hill (Charles, spouse) of TX and Ted Holmes (Susan, spouse) of PA along with numerous nieces/nephews. Thomas is pre-deceased by his parents Erwin & Teckla (Larson) Holmes, and sister Karin. After serving in the US Air Force Thomas attended Sunset School of Preaching in TX where he received his degree to minister for the churches of Christ. Thomas ministered in various churches in Texas, New York, and Connecticut. Thomas later went on to receive his Doctorate in Ministry in 2012. Thomas was a graduate of the University of Texas and went on to get his Masters Degree at Southern Connecticut University. He began teaching in Texas and when he returned to Connecticut he went to work at the Davis Street Magnet School in New Haven, Ct where he taught elementary grades for 20 years until his retirement in 2012. Thomas had a heart for mission work he traveled to Mexico, Honduras, and Africa and hoped to continue spreading the word of God in the future. Family will receive friends on Friday July 1, 2016 from 4:00 pm until the time of service at 7:00 pm in the New Haven Church of Christ, 16 Gem Street, New Haven, CT. Burial will be private. All services are in the care of Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home) 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, CT.
