Obituary of Julia Ferrara

Julia (DeStefano) Ferrara 97 of East Haven passed away peacefully at Apple Rehab in East Haven. She was born May 2, 1918 in New Haven to Antonio and Carolina (Capone) DeStefano. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred Ferrara (1969), brothers, Louis, Salvatore and Giro “Gerry” DeStefano and sisters, Nicolena Pompilio and Eleanor Serra. Julia is survived by her two loving and caring sons, Salvatore Ferrara (Paula) of East Haven and Anthony Ferrara (Carole) of New Haven. She is also survived by grandchildren, Joseph Ferrara (Tina), Freddy Ferrara, Melissa Montuori (Carmine), Anthony Ferrara and great grandchildren, Joseph Ferrara, Jake Ferrara, Olivia Ferrara and Marlowe Montuori and a sister, Christine Serra of Hudson, FL. In her youth, Julia worked at Rubbercraft, A.C. Gilberts and Echlins. She went into business along with her sister, Eleanor as owners of CJ Casuals in East Haven. Julia belonged to the East Haven Lioness Club, East Haven Senior Center, East Haven Chamber of Commerce and also volunteered at the East Haven Food Pantry. In 1999 Julia was the recipient of the East Haven Mayors Merit Award for all her volunteering. She also enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Italy and Florida. Julia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an avid UConn Huskie fan. Family will receive friends on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 10:30 – 11:45 am at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Funeral procession will leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home at 11:50 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 (noon) in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Taylor Ave., East Haven with committal to follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven, CT. The Ferrara family would like to thank Jaime Wortman and Judy Payne and the entire staff at Apple Rehab for their kind and compassionate care of their mother.
