Hank and I sort of grew up together, too. We went to kindergarten for sure and a few grades of school until he went to St. Christopher's. He came back to Grandview our senior year I believe. We even dated for a while at college time.
He was a special man and I can't believe he is gone due to altzheimers. He seemed just fine at our 70th birthday in Columbus last year.
Hank you will be missed by all who knew and loved you.
My condolences to all friends and family.

[Continued from previous post]
I just as immediately told him I was very grateful to him for having that thought, but that he shouldn't bother. He is, I thought to myself, a busy, very important man who really doesn't need to take his valuable time to do that -- or that of his staff. Besides, had I accepted, he'd probably forget, given the 10,000 higher priority things on his mind, and he certainly didn't need to deal with the memory of a forgotten obligation every subsequent time we'd meet. We moved on to other topics, and I thought the subject was closed.
Of course I was wrong. About a week later a package arrived at my desk. It was a VHS tape with a yellow sticky from Hank saying he hoped my wife and daughter would enjoy it. We've never forgotten his thoughtful gesture.
And so we pray that Hank's family and friends find solace in their loss by remembering what we're sure are Hank's many acts of kindness.

Filomena and I were very saddened to learn of Hank's passing. I got to know Hank when I was working for the United Way of Greater New Haven and he was running WTNH. He was, as no one would be surprised, easy to like and to talk to, but Filomena and I remember him fondly because he taught us a lesson about how simple, seemingly small acts of kindness can mean so much.
At the time, my wife, who has always had a passion for the dramatic arts, was taking acting lessons and even snagged a nice role in an industrial film and small parts in commercials. I mentioned to Hank that we had been very excited when Filomena and our 3-year old daughter had been selected for a WTNH news promo, and obviously more thrilled to see that their bit had survived the cutting room and was being aired (even as we spoke) by WTNH.
Hank immediately volunteered to give us a copy. (You younger folks should know his offer was a real favor. This was before DVRs -- so for us to get a copy off the air would have meant taping WTNH for 3-4 hours and hoping we could catch the commercial -- but not being able to "cut-and-paste" it out, we'd have to keep the whole tape as is.) [To be continued in next post]

I am sorry to hear of the passing of our class mate. Hank and I grew up on the same street. Although we did not keep in touch after high school. Hank came to the 50 year class reunion and yes he was dressed fit to kill and so handsome. He brought a proud picture of his beautiful home. I enjoyed reading about all Hank had accomplished in life. You all have really lost a special man. I am praying that your hearts will stop hurting as time passes.

I feel very sorry after reading this news and totally shocked. Moreover, I remembered interviewing Hank Yaggi for my sports management project at the University of New Haven back in mid 2000. He was a very sharp dresser, who had even a sharper mind not only in the radio/TV business, but also in teaching.
Meeting Mr. Yaggi for the first time at UNH felt intimidating because you can see all of the success around his office and just how well-rounded he was in his craft. What I also remembered is the kindness and heart he had not only in business, but in life.
Hank was a man, who would always allow you to have an opinion on pretty much anything that you wanted to talk about during that day, whether you were right, or wrong. Also, if you couldn't understand something, he would always try and help you out.
He was a very kind, respected, caring, and a hardworking, fair-minded, man. He would always treat you like you were a somebody. There are very few men like that in this world, and I was glad to meet Mr. Yaggi during my four and a half year college tenure.
My condolences go out to all of you.
May you rest in piece. He was a class act both personally and professionally.

Dear Val & family: I was shocked to see the notice of Hank's passing. I will always fondly remember working with him at W*USA. He was definitely a class act. His committment to the the station AND the community was inspiring. His red sports car in the fishbowl was a great sight to see each day, it meant that he was already there and taking on whatever challenge came up. Hank was always dapper in appearance, and happy in spirit. I second that he was a real jewel. My condolences to your family, remember the happy times with him, I know there were many. Terry Fox.

I was so fortunate to work with Hank as his assistant at WTNH. He greeted me every day with a smile and a wave. He was a kind, thoughtful gentleman who was respectful to everyone -- it didn't matter if you were a secretary or the president of the company, he treated you with dignity.
How he loved his family! He adored Val, their children and their spouses, grandchildren (although many have been added since I worked with Hank), and immediate family members. When he spoke of them or when you were with them you could tell that they were (proudly) the center of his universe.
I remember how much he loved to work around his house. He was like a little kid when he was telling me about his latest project – it brought him so much joy.
He was generous with his time and talents; and I saw first-hand the good work that could be done for the community through his work on various committees for charitable organizations and non-profits.
Reading Hank’s obituary brought tears to my eyes for his loss, but a huge smile on my face remembering working for a good man. I feel I’m a better person for having known him. I think we all are.

Dear Val,
I am so sorry at your great loss. Hank was one of my favorites. When Jon Gluck sent me an email about Hank passing I remembered so well how he pitched me the job available in the Chicago Office which I managed at that time. I hired Hank and always remembered the KLAR middle name. Hank wanted to leave local sales in Columbus and get into Nat'l sales...which he got when I hired him. I also remembered your name ..Val and meeting you several times. I am not surprised at all that Hank rose to such great heights in the business world. When I read his bio and comments about his style I thought..."that is the Hank I remember"e;!
Val, I lost my beloved Ann 5 years ago and can understand the pain you are experiencing....God bless you and give you strength during this difficult time..

Dear Val & Family-- As the lawyer-agent-- and best friend since high school-- of Glenn Brenner, of blessed memory, I came to know Hank beginning in the old days at Broadcast House and before Hank became GM. Aside from being a gentleman, he was, most clearly, a gentle man-- and I can think of no higher praise. I was astounded that such a contemplative, sweet guy could be such an impressive salesman. But that was Hank's genius. My infrequent later contacts with him over the years in Connecticut always left me with a feeling of warmth and comfort. Hank and I, however briefly, had shared a lot-- invigorating success and tragic loss-- and that history kept us bound together. I'll always remember your husband, father, and grandfather with great affection and admiration. May he rest in peace, and may you know sadness no more.

Dear Val and family, my thoughts are with all of you during this difficult time. I am truly grateful to have had the opportunity to meet and work with Hank during his time in Connecticut. If there was anyone that embodied the balance of work and family it was Hank. He taught me how to be a broadcaster and the importance of being a great Dad. If I could have just half of his success, I'd consider myself lucky. There was never a conversation we had that somehow would evolve back to his family. He was so proud of all of you and wanted nothing but the very best for his family and his community.
I shared Hank's passing with my family this week and said the world lost a great person. I am grateful to Hank as I'm a better person today because of him. There is no better gift than to have a profound impact on someone's life. I played a small part of that, but I know for all of you -- his family -- that impact last for many Yaggi generations to come.
My condolences to all of you -- Jon Hitchcock
