Dear Pam and Family,
Please accept Joyce's and my deepest sympathy on Gil's passing. Sorry to interrupt your healing by a late expression of sympathy, but I had only recently heard of his passing.
As you must know, Gil was my favorite midshipman summer trainee, my favorite submarine squadron material and favorite Sublant Staff N SectionHead. He was a great friend, naval officer and--I'm sure--Anglican Priest. I have sent a donation in his memory to Christ Church Anglican (Outreach Fund).
You, your children, and grandchildren are in our prayers. I hope the funeral home will forward this message to you. Unfortunately, i could not find your home address.
Fondly,
Jack

Mrs. Wilkes and family,
I am saddened to hear about the passing of Captain Wilkes. The USS Cincinnati was my first submarine and also the namesake of my hometown. As such, I had the honor and privilege of being part of the ship's contingent that was invited to represent the boat at several events sponsored by the Navy League in Cincinnati. I was, and always will be honored to have served under Captain Wilkes.
I am sorry for your loss and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Terry Liggett

I proudly served aboard the Nuclear Submarine USS Cincinnati SSN 693 under the Command of Captain Gilbert Wilkes III. His leadership was an invaluable contribution to my personal and professional life then and thereafter. And, I will always remember him and the positive influence he had on me during a most personally challenging period . He was indeed an extraordinary man...

Dear Pam and family, I am truly sadden over the news of Fr. Gil. All I have are wonderful memories of him and I will never forget all he did for me and my family when I needed him. I also remember how scared I was when I needed surgery and I asked him to pray over me, not only did he pray over me but he showed up at 7:00 am at St. Raphael Hospital so he could hold my hand. My husband, son and myself will never forget that morning. I'm glad I was invited to his Retirement party last summer but mostly I'll never forget when I came back for a visit, how he smiled when he saw me. Fr. Gill will be greatly missed by so many, but he is with our Lord, Jesus Christ. Rest in peace Fr. Gill, until we meet again. Love Tammie, George and George Jr. xoxox
