Obituary of Edward S. Fitzgerald

Edward S. Fitzgerald "Mr. Fitz", longtime resident of the Annex section of New Haven, died Friday, March 22, 2013. He was the loving husband of the late Joan (Laske) Fitzgerald. Ed is survived by his devoted children, Edward Fitzgerald and his wife, Laura (DeFelice) of New Haven; Daniel Fitzgerald and his wife, Noelle (Alban) of Cincinnati, Ohio; Lisa Fitzgerald of Waltham, MA; and Karen (Fitzgerald) Zoeller and husband, R. Andrew Zoeller of Arlington, MA. "Pop" also leaves his six beloved grandchildren, Megan, Edward, Kevin and Elizabeth “Liza” Fitzgerald, and Gregory and Joseph Zoeller. The youngest child of Patrick and Margaret (Shea) Fitzgerald, Edward was born and raised in Fair Haven. He attended St. Francis School and Hillhouse High School, and proudly served his country in the US Navy. He married his 5th grade sweetheart in 1956, sharing 53 years with his "darling" Joan. Ed retired from Southern New England Telephone Company and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. In addition to his family, Ed loved Irish music, the Red Sox, UConn basketball, Gunga Din, and his daily 4 a.m. black coffee with a donut chaser. In addition to his wife and parents, Edward was pre-deceased by his brothers, James and John Fitzgerald, and sisters, Margaret Keefe, Mary Vets, Julia Butorac, Eileen Murray, H.Teresa (TC) Hatch, and Kathleen Fitzgerald. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, good neighbors and friends, and his dear in-laws, James and Tootsie Laske and Byron Hatch. Funeral from the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, Wednesday morning at 9:30. A Mass of Christian Burial in St. Vincent de Paul Church, East Haven at 10:00. Burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 26, from 4 - 8 pm.
