Obituary of John P. Weir

At his home in East Haven, July 28, 2012, John P. (Jake) Weir, beloved husband of Rosemary Malloy Weir and loving father of Joan (John) Corbett and Rosemary (Robert) Grehl both of East Haven and John P. (Dutch) Weir, Jr. of Wallingford. He is also survived by six cherished grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Claire Reynolds, of West Haven. He was predeceased by a sister, Genevieve (Sis) Roche and three brothers, Bernard (Bub) Weir, James R. (Bay) Weir and Edward (Ned) Weir. Mr Weir, age 91, was born in New Haven, son of James and Genevieve Brady Weir. He was a retired carpenter, having served with the Carpenters Union Local 24 of Yalesville. Jake was an Army veteran of World War II and a long time parishioner of St. Francis Church. He was a 1941 graduate of Hillhouse High School, where he had been a member of their baseball and football teams and was especially proud of the Thanksgiving Day football win against the undefeated West Haven High School in 1939. Funeral from The Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, Wednesday morning at 9:30. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Church at 10 o'clock.
