Obituary of Albert Peter Zawadowski

Albert Peter Zawadowski, 68, suddenly left this world on January 12, 2011. Al was born
on September 22, 1942. He came to this country as a Polish-German Refugee during the
war at the age of 8. At an early age Al was predeceased by his father, Mathias
Zawadowski of Poland and his mother Maria Miskow Zawadowski. He was also
predeceased by his young sister, Catherine. Following the death of his parents he was
raised by his loving godparents, Peter and Elizabeth Cewe. Three years ago, Al was also
predeceased by the mother of his children, Roberta Pfrommer Zawadowski which whom
he kept a loving relationship. As a student at St. Rose's Parochial School in New Haven
he and his baseball teammates won the first State and New England Parochial tiles for the
city of New Haven. After graduating from Eli Whitney he then went on to serve in the
US Navy and was sent to Vietnam. On January 29, 1970 he was given an Honorable
Discharge from the United States Navy for his service. Al leaves behind his son, Matthew
'H. Zawadowski of Hamden, his daughters, Melissa A. Zawadowski and fiancee Brian
Connellan of North Branford, and Maria E. D'Urso and husband Michael of Madison. He
also leaves behind his grandchildren Alice, Mikey, and Ella D'Urso of Madison. He is
survived by his sister, Christine Florenzano and husband Anthony of New Haven. Dear
friend, Lori Cifarelli, also survives him. Al was everything to everybody. Despite the
tragedies he endured as a young boy he found happiness and hope through his family and
friends. He put all others ahead of himself. Most of all he was the most loving, caring,
devoted father to his children and "Papa" to his grandchildren by whom he was most
adored and loved so deeply. He spent every moment he had with them giving them all
they would ever need, his love.
Funeral from the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven ,Monday morning at
9:30. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 in St. Bernadette Church, New Haven. Burial with military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 3 – 7 pm. Memorial contributions are requested to be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., 306 Industrial Pad Rd, Suite 105, Middletown, CT 06457.
